Healthy New York
  • HNY is a partially subsidized public program.  The coverage is comprehensive, similar to Medicaid or FHP, but you must pay a monthly premium out-of-pocket.  The premium is much lower than if you go to the insurance provider directly.  The lowest premium is $150/month.  There is no immigration requirement.
  • Call 1-886-HEALTHY NY (1-866-432-5849) for more information.
HHC Options
  • HHC Options is a pay-as-you-use plan.  It is not insurance, so there is no monthly premium.  It is available at all NYC public hospitals, and includes all primary care, in-patient services, and hospitalization.  You will be charged a fee for each service based on family size, income and assets.  Fees start as low as $15/service.  Also, payment plans are available.

Workers' Compensation: Help If You Are Injured On the Job
Taxi drivers are covered by Workers' Compensation in case of injury on the job, such as from an assault or an accident.  Workers' Comp. will pay all medical bills and cover you for lost income based on the nature of the injury.  The board uses a formula to decide on monetary claims for all workers:  2/3 x average weekly wage x % of disability = weekly benefit.  They will review taxes to decide on income.  You have three years to file a claim.

NYTWA Can Help. We can provide more information and help you apply.
