The largest taxi driver union in the country, the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, a multi-ethnic membership-based organization, was founded in 1998 to transform the taxi industry and improve working conditions through organizing, political and media advocacy, litigation, direct legal services and access to healthcare. We are presently over 15,000-members strong.

The drivers of NYC’s 13,237 medallion yellow taxicabs work 12-hour shifts without health insurance, retirement or paid time-off. Taxi drivers are 30 times more likely to be killed on the job than other workers. Drivers are subject to discriminatory policing, excessive regulations and courts infamous for lack of due process.
Serving and protecting drivers since 1998, NYTWA provides legal, health and financial services AND builds driver power with unity, action and a democratic organization to transform this sweatshop on wheels.
